PEARC20’s theme is “Catch the Wave.” This year’s theme embodies the spirit of the community’s drive to stay on pace and in front of all the new waves in technology, analytics, and a globally connected and diverse workforce. We look forward to this year’s PEARC20 virtual meeting, where we can share scientific discovery and craft the future infrastructure.

Patrick Schmitz is Founder and Principal Consultant at Semper Cogito, providing Strategic technology consulting in Academic Research IT. Prior to this, he spent 12 years at UC Berkeley as Associate Director of Research IT for Architecture and Strategy, providing IT strategy and solutions in support of campus research; and Director of Berkeley Research Computing. In addition to his experience in academia, he was a researcher at Microsoft Research, Yahoo! Research, and CWI in Amsterdam, and co-founded a series of tech startups. Schmitz is an active contributor to various CaRCC working groups, including those on the Research Computing and Data Capabilities Model, RCD Professionalization, and the Ecosystem.
